THE TIERNEY-GUTHRIE DEBATE:

Is the Protestant Doctrine of Sola Scriptura True?

Kevin Tierney  VS.  Shandon L. Guthrie

The subject of sola Scriptura in Protestant/Catholic encounters is a decisive issue for many. In many cases, it is the premiere driving force of Protestants who convert to Catholicism. In this debate, conducted July-August, 2002, we shall explore the evidence for and against sola Scriptura to see which view is most likely true. This debate is between Kevin Tierney, president of Defender's Apologetics Ministry and a professing Catholic apologist, and Shandon L. Guthrie, a Christian philosopher and apologist for Protestant Evangelicalism.

Below is a reprint of that exchange.
